BILLY’S BAGDAD TIMES

This is EOD MU6 DET 4, Dispatched from Ingleside TX.  There are two of us from EOD MU6 (the host command) Charleston SC. The team is split into two teams, one of which I have the distinct pleasure of being with. There are six of us located in the red zone. The other three are located in the green zone (I am heading there in 1 week) I have it real good right now and will miss all the comforts of home. Even thou, I am headed for a less dangerous spot I will not have Internet access or TV that is within arms reach! I guess I will be hanging out at the gym a lot. I will have my own room for a while. I currently share a bedroom with two of my teammates.  We have running water in our bathroom, but no toilet! If it is 116° out side, imagine what it is inside the port-a-john at 2 in the afternoon! We have a washer and a spinner. We hang our clothes on the line outside; it takes about 15 minutes to ½ an hour to dry. We have a movie night almost every night on the big screen, as long as the guys don’t have to go out on a call. I have not gone outside the wire with the guys on a call, but I have gone outside the wire to get from one camp to another. It can be a dangerous place if you were driving by yourself, but we always travel in full convoys, with our doors looked and the AC on! Oh yeah, for this photo, I was in the middle of working and forgot to put on my sunglasses, so that is me with the HUGE gun, that’s right, that is how I roll! Just kidding! It is a Barret: a high-powered sniper rifle used for long distance ordinance disposal. They use that instead of a tank in some cases because it is more accurate.  I carry what everyone else carries and I am not special. We just thought it would be comical to have it in the picture.
